PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project is a branching scenario built in Articulate Storyline developed with a gamified scenario in which the learner makes choices about a project.

Course Title: The Project Management Game

Training Objective: Junior project managers will be able to select choices to test their skills in allocating resources, managing deadlines, and leading a small team.

Programs Used: Articulate Storyline.

Experience the simulation.

Problem Context

A fictional company uses small agile teams to develop and launch new products. As the company is experiencing exponential growth, junior project managers are fast-tracked into leadership positions with small teams. These less experienced project managers need to be able to put project management theory into action by making real-time, complicated decisions factoring in resource allocation, project deadlines, and team management skills.

Solution Journey

In order to effective assess application of knowledge, a learner must make authentic decisions in a complex scenario. By designing a branching scenario, I created a module where each of the learner's choices change the outcome of the story. I used gamification elements in the form of three 'health' trackers on each of the object areas for learner growth: budget allocation, meeting deadlines, and team management. The motivation for the scenario was to reach the end with a successful project (and hopefully no one quit!).

The game offers both positive and negative results based on three score trackers.
